Endinburgh. St Andrews. Stirling. Fort William. Oban. Glasgow

Edinburgh and Stirling maintain their appeal even under dreary skies. Glasgow not so much - although perhaps its reputation as, once, a hard-as-nails industrial and ship building centre prejudiced my perceptions. I've read descriptions of Glasgow as being artistic, brash, chic, dynamic, exhuberant - Manhattan with a Scottish accent. Someone's been over-indulging in the Glenfiddich! It looked pretty dour to me and a suitable point for departure.

We limited ourselves to the south of Scotland, but that does contain the Scottish icons of Loch Lomond and Ben Nevis and the scenery is pretty. Very pretty. And very damp. I don't have a lot of photos of the Scottish countryside - drifing mist, sleet or horizontal rain make for pretty poor shooting conditions.

Edinburgh

The city surrounds include a green belt, prosperous stately houses with high stone walls, trees and an overall pleasant atmosphere. It's one of the most livable-looking cities i have seen.

Stirling to Oban

Describing Scotland as monochrome is unfair, but lots of grey, overcast and drizzle sucked the colour out of the scenery.
